Maricopa, AZ — Legacy Traditional School in Maricopa had the distinct honor of launching Governor Ducey’s 2nd Annual Back to School Tour. To follow video highlights of his visit, click here.
Principal Amy Sundeen and her team hosted the tour for the Governor through two classrooms on the first Legacy campus built in 2007. In Ms. Ortiz’s 1st grade class, Gov. Ducey listened to Legacy first graders recite Spalding phonograms. At the conclusion of the lesson students were waiting in anticipation for Q&A with the Governor. See how the Governor answered, “How do you catch bad guys?” here – hint: Spiderman would approve).
At the next classroom visit, Gov. Ducey greeted Ms. Gatzke’s 7th grade History class and fielded more questions from the engaged junior high students.
Governor Ducey took a moment to congratulate, Principal Amy Sundeen on “having such an impressive campus and a beautiful group of children.”
The final stop in the Legacy gymnasium brought Governor Ducey and his staff to enthusiastic families and students awaiting the tour’s culmination – a music performance from 150 Legacy 2nd graders and Junior High show choir. The students performed, “The Star Spangled Banner,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Dance to the Music.
This was a momentous day in Legacy’s history and we are grateful Governor Ducey selected our Maricopa campus to be part of his academic excellence tour.
