Legacy Traditional Schools – Arizona’s highest-rated K-8 charter – to expand its Surprise campus

New structure opening fall 2017 will accommodate additional classrooms for 600 students, computer and piano labs; 4,000 sq. ft of indoor turf

Surprise, AZ – Since opening Legacy Traditional School’s Surprise campus in the fall of 2015 at fully enrolled capacity, the district has had its eye on the future with a plan for expansion that would meet the area’s growing needs. According to the school district’s projections, the need for additional campus space became evident as a long wait list for admission into Legacy-Surprise has continued since its opening two years ago.

Today, Legacy announced that construction will begin early next year to build a separate school structure on land adjacent to the existing school site. The new building will house all 6th, 7th, and 8th-graLegacy-surprise-expansion-elevationde students.

This expansion will enable Legacy to provide additional seats for students across all grade levels, kindergarten through eighth. The new facility will be open in time for the 2017/2018 school year. LGE Design Build is the general contractor for the construction project.

School Principal Nicole Kirkley said, “We are thrilled with the opportunity to provide Legacy’s top-quality education to more students in the West Valley. So many families have expressed interest in attending Legacy, but our existing campus was full from day one. This new campus expansion is a great solution for so many of those families who have patiently waited for seats at Legacy.”

Now in its second academic school year, the Surprise campus and its students has grown a wide base of community engagement and parent involvement along with the support of highly qualified faculty and staff. “Adding this state-of-the-art structure to the existing campus for our upper grades will benefit the entire school as it allows us to open-up additional classrooms across all grade levels. We are extremely gratified that so many parents and members of the community see the value of this expansion from a broad perspective,” Kirkley explained.

Guided by the principle that education provides more than academic instruction, Kirkley said, “We also recognize that the physical building is more than just bricks and mortar — it is one of the primary resources that enables our students and teachers to realize their full potential. When a Legacy school can add to the student experience and build new facilities such as this, the entire community benefits.”

The new building will add a second computer lab for the school; a piano lab for Legacy’s ‘Mozart’ program; a 4,000 square-foot indoor turf area for gym classes and its fitness ‘Momentum’ program and additional cafeteria facilities.

Legacy believes every student deserves the benefit and reward of a high quality, well-rounded education. An education at Legacy concentrates on all areas of academic study, including music, art, physical education, extracurricular activities and participation in clubs. Legacy also offers after-school and summer programs as an extension to its academics.
