Legacy Traditional School Board Approves District-Wide Teacher Pay Boost Effective for 2017-18 School Year

 Legacy is one of Arizona’s Highest-Paying Districts for First-Year Teachers

 Chandler, AZ – Legacy Traditional Schools is proud to announce significant, across-the-board pay increases for all teachers, making it one of Arizona’s highest-paying districts for first-year teachers.  The pay increases are made possible due to Arizona voters’ approval in 2016 of Proposition 123.

Effective July 16, 2017, all first-year teachers with Legacy Traditional will receive a pay boost of $2,500.The starting salary for first-year teachers will increase 6 percent, from $35,500 to $38,000 (Bachelor’s) or $39,500 to $42,000 (Master’s) for the 2017-18 school year.  Second-year and beyond teachers will receive pay raises commensurate with experience.

“Since the inception of Legacy’s first Arizona campus in Maricopa a decade ago, students’ academic performance and teacher compensation have ranked among our top priorities,” said William Gregory, co-founder and executive director of Legacy Traditional Schools. 

Today, Legacy Traditional has 12 schools across Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties, and more than 12,000 students and 900 faculty members.

“Legacy Traditional is carving out new territory,” Gregory continued. “Not only are Legacy Schools Arizona’s top-performing K-8 schools – but our average teacher pay and our first-year teachers are being rewarded more generously than most districts in the state. We thank Governor Ducey for his leadership and Arizona voters for their approval of Proposition 123, which has helped make possible this additional pay increase for our teachers.”

This just-announced pay hike will increase the average teacher pay at Legacy Traditional to an estimated $44,000, with up to another $5,500 possible in the form of teacher performance pay — in addition to teacher stipends for extra duties.  Teachers will also be credited for up to 10 years of prior experience.

By comparison, according to the National Education Association, the combined starting salary in Arizona for elementary and secondary teachers is $31,689; the state’s average teacher salary is $46,358.
