August 13, 2020Saxon Math Curriculum Update (NV)

As you know, COVID -19 has changed the educational landscape and forced schools to adapt rather quickly to meet the needs of students. As a result, the majority of fourth quarter instruction last year was conducted online and students missed in-person instruction. Due to this and the challenging nature of these unique times, we feel it is in the best interest of our students to change the way we approach our mathematics curriculum this year.

Previously, the Saxon Math curriculum utilized by Legacy schools was programmed to meet standards one grade level ahead of each student’s current grade level. For example, a second grade student was taught third grade-level math standards.

During the 2020-21 school year, Legacy campuses will align our math curriculum to meet the standards of students’ current grade levels, instead of providing instruction at an advanced grade level. However, math bumps for students who are ready for the next grade level instruction will be available to all students, based on our established criteria.

Please understand that this decision was not made lightly. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jennifer Hackett, Leadership Coach, via email at jennifer.hackett@legacytraditional.org.

We are confident that taking this approach will ensure any learning gaps from last year are bridged and that all Legacy students will achieve academic success this year.
