What Your Child Can Expect in Legacy Kindergarten
Kindergarten is the first step in your child’s education journey. This is a big change, and we know that feeling supported is key to your child’s success. With caring teachers, structured classrooms, and a supportive school community, Legacy helps your child feel confident, prepared, and excited for the journey ahead.
Nevada Kindergarten Curriculum
Our curriculum focuses on improving phonics, spelling, handwriting, and comprehension through daily practice. As your child improves their reading skills, they are given the opportunity to progress to more difficult reading assignments, matching their growth. Students listen to stories, talk about what they learn, and begin expressing their ideas through drawing and writing.
The enVision math program helps students understand how math works, not just how to memorize steps and formulas. Our curriculum is set up in units where lessons will progress from introduction to more complex usage of a concept. Students explore math using pictures, objects, and models, while sharing thinking and talking through strategies together, with teacher support.
Our science curriculum enables students to construct an understanding of scientific concepts through investigation and analysis, the use of laboratory equipment, and interactive technology. Students exercise logical thinking and decision-making skills appropriate to their grade level, engaging in interactive learning through investigations and experiments.
The social studies program includes the study of world history, U.S. history, state history, and geography, with an emphasis on being a responsible citizen. Through interactive lessons, students engage with exciting history topics while utilizing reading, vocabulary, maps, charts, and captioned images, engaging critical thinking skills while learning about important historical events.
In art class, students use a variety of media and techniques to create art projects that replicate historically important artists and styles, creating a deeper understanding of the art being studied. Students learn essential art vocabulary, as well as the basics of art history, the elements of art, and the principles of design.
Music class emphasizes music appreciation, history, literacy, composition, and performance. Students sing, play instruments, listen and move to music. Grade-level music performances are held throughout the school year.
In physical education (P.E.) class, students will do more than simply move their bodies, they’ll learn how to take care of them. By learning about wellness and nutrition practices as well as health and fitness, students build a well-founded understanding of physical fitness beyond exercise.
Spanish class introduces students to basic vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and conversational skills. Students also explore the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries and communities, developing confidence in speaking, listening, writing, and comprehension.
