Today we’re recognizing Kasi Johnson, who is currently in her 14th year of teaching at LTS – Maricopa. She works with our grade 1-8 RISE/Gifted students and oversees the junior high yearbook elective. Over the years she has also been an incredible school representative at events like musicals, talent shows, the Odyssey of the Mind competition, and the Modern Woodman/Great Communicator speech competitions.

Before joining LTS, Kasi worked as an Admissions Counselor at two different universities, so you could say she has always had a passion for guiding students on their educational journey. When asked what inspired her to become a teacher, she shared, “I have always loved the educational setting and working with kids. The relationships you make with your students are what makes a teacher great.” We couldn’t agree more!

When asked about her greatest professional achievement, Kasi revealed that while she loves working with our Gifted students, she was initially nervous to accept the role:

When it was offered to me, I declined. In discussing with the principal at the time, she believed in me and believed this is where the best fit would be for me. I am so glad she did and I have been teaching this program ever since!”

As the very first Legacy Traditional Schools campus, Legacy – Maricopa and its staff have devoted years to building future leaders in our community. When asked about advice or skills she hopes to pass on to her students, Kasi wisely mused, “In the middle of every difficulty lies an opportunity. Do not be afraid to take it.”

Over the past 15 years, LTS has grown to include over 25 campuses in Arizona, Nevada, and Texas, With each new campus comes the opportunity to grow and improve. We are honored to have retained spectacular teachers such as Kasi, who will continue to shape the lives and minds of our students!
